In the fast-paced and high-stakes public safety environment, reliable communication tools are essential for those who protect and serve our communities. EMS, fire, and police personnel rely on their radios to provide instant, clear communication in critical moments. As an answer to this challenge, GenComm is proud to offer the Kenwood Viking VP8000 multi-band, multi-protocol radio, specifically designed for today’s public safety agencies.

The Viking VP8000 combines Kenwood’s recognized hardware quality and reliability with the Viking software expertise. It boasts ergonomics ideal for use by public safety personnel, such as a flare grip for control, big glove-friendly knobs, and a large emergency button. And for the often high-noise environments of the public safety industry, the radio has a 3-watt audio maximum and software-based noise cancellation that automatically filters out noise source frequencies.

Both the front and top displays on the radio show multi-line text. The top display is a large, full-color LCD screen, and its text changes orientation for better viewing while the radio is in a holster. Users can select day and night display options, with eight available color themes. Plus, the displays have multiple visual indicators, including battery health and signal strength.

Other notable features of the Viking VP8000 radio include:

  • Multi-band operation (VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz)
  • Mixed protocol zones, so each channel in a zone can be from a different system
  • Built-in GPS receiver/antenna for enhanced awareness
  • Voice annunciation and custom announcement creation

Additionally, the radio is fully ruggedized, built to be robust and durable in harsh conditions with IP67/68 and MIL-STD-810 C/D/E/F/G/H ratings. Full-key models are available (with a numeric keypad), and the radio features the FIRESafe Fire Ground Commander and First Responder software suite from EF Johnson Technologies. Plus, it offers maximum connectivity to the range of protocols in current operation or in future migrations, including P25 Conventional, P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 Trunking, DMR, Viking16 (SmartNet/SmartZone compatible), and FM Analog.
